In his tenure as Governor, Gavin Newsom has signed a beautiful flurry of pro-housing bills. Most recently, he signed AB 2907, which eliminated parking mandates on sites near transit. Not to mention SB 9 and 10, which repealed single-family zoning throughout the state. We are proud to endorse him, and look forward to four more years of his leadership.

Rob Bonta has brought an unprecedented passion for enforcing state housing law to the Attorney General’s office. His leadership of the Housing Accountability Unit and his dedication to protecting pro-housing legislation from NIMBY nonsense has earned him the title Housing Champion.

Teran has been a thoughtful advocate for increasing the housing supply in Oxnard and for housing that meets the affordability needs of Oxnard residents. He has also advocated for improving pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in Oxnard. He is committed to continuing to balance these goals.

Ayala recognizes the pattern of exclusionary zoning present in Simi Valley and supports rational changes in height and density regulations to allow for more housing development where it is needed. He will work to meet the housing needs of everyone in the city through a broad approach that includes rental protections and both subsidized affordable housing and market rate housing development.

In our questionnaire, Weisman immediately voiced a concern with the City of Simi Valley’s resistance to California mandates to create affordable housing, and says that Simi Valley must take the initiative to provide affordable housing. He proposes reducing the land zoned exclusively for single-family homes in the city and increasing the amount of land with mixed-use zoning, as well as strengthening protections for renters and improving the transportation systems in the city.

Rohrbach has actively spoken in favor of housing projects, including interim supportive housing, within Thousand Oaks and is knowledgeable about the role that the city’s General Plan Update and Inclusionary Housing Ordinance will play in creating affordable housing units in the city. He also demonstrates an understanding of the connection between improving the city’s transportation systems and its ability to support the increased production of housing that is needed to add more affordability to the city’s housing stock.

McReynolds demonstrates a solid understanding of state housing legislation and expresses support for expanding the City of Ventura’s inclusionary housing ordinance to include rental units. His experience within the Building Industry Association and as a member of the Ventura General Plan Advisory Committee will bring a valuable perspective to the city council.
